What others are saying about this campground
Sage Creek Campground is a remote area in the Badlands with easy access on a dirt road. It is a large open field with picnic tables and pergolas, bathrooms, and a secondary area for larger campers. It is a great spot for camping with access to simple, 300-800 ft gain hikes all around you, and you can witness the beauty of the Badlands with breathtaking views. Wildlife such as prairie dogs, bison, hawks, meadowlarks, magpies, bighorn sheep, and burrowing owls can be seen in the area. There is no water onsite, but you can fill up at the outside faucet at the visitor center before heading down the road to the campsite. It is a great spot for solitude seekers, stargazers, and adventurers, and is a great place to explore the National Park.

From The Campground
Badlands National Park Backcountry Camping offers a unique opportunity to experience the dynamics of nature in a forbidding-looking place. The spires, pinnacles, and ravines provide a visual gateway to forever with views that can stretch over fifty miles, offering solitude and serenity. The park is open hike, meaning that you are free to hike and camp off-trail as long as you stick to backcountry location rules: staying a half mile away from any roads or trails and staying out of sight. While the entire park is available to you, there are some popular routes for backcountry camping. Common backcountry camping locations include Deer Haven and Sage Creek Wilderness Area. Twisted or fractured ankles are the most common serious injury sustained in Badlands National Park, so make sure you are wearing sturdy boots with good ankle support. Campfires are not allowed under any circumstances. Pets are not permitted on trails, in backcountry, or wilderness areas.
