Unfortunately, the parking lot and building have not been well maintained and the septic pipes on some sites are broken and jagged. There are security dogs in a fenced-in building that bark 24 hours a day, and some of the long-term campers allow their dogs to run off-leash and leave their waste. Weekenders can be quite rowdy, and the road leading to the campground is single-lane with ditches on the edge. There is no table, no bathroom, and the fire ring is on a steep slope, making it difficult to make a patio area. There is also no internet service, and cell service is spotty. Additionally, there is a cable cord that stretches across multiple sites, creating a tripping hazard.

Hales Bar Marina and Resort is a lakefront resort located on Lake Nickajack and the Tennessee River. The resort offers a full-service marina with over 220 covered slips, a full hookup RV campground with 80 paved sites, and popular floating and land cabins. The cabins are equipped with a combination of king, queen, and full size beds, as well as bunk beds, and include full bathrooms and kitchens with all necessary appliances and utensils. The resort also features a pool, tours of the old powerhouse turned distillery, and a ship store that sells soft drinks, beer, ice, snacks, bait, fishing and boating accessories, and souvenirs and gifts.
