Old Stone Fork State Park in Tennessee is a great destination for a day hike, weekend getaway, or extended camping trip. The park features a non-motorized boat launch, numerous swimming holes, and a museum tour with the chance to earn Jr Ranger badges. The campground has water, electric, charcoal grill, and fire ring on site, but the asphalt edge is very broken at the door exit. The trails are great with views of two rivers, and the loop trails around the Native American ceremonial area are peppered with waterfalls. There is background traffic noise from Interstate 24, but the sites are all back in and offer a cement picnic table. The creek is magnificent to explore in the fall, and the online reservation site is a great way to secure a spot. Be aware that the Stone Fort trail has a lot of bluffs and is dangerous for children.
From The Campground
Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park is a historic site that was built during the Middle Woodland Period, 1,500-2,000 years ago.
