Rock Island State Park is a picturesque and well-maintained campground with paved sites. The sites are engineered to be level, but some may have sloped roadways. The park features excellent electrical and water systems, a patio area with a fixed picnic table, and dual clean dump stations on the way out. The campground is heavily forested, which makes for cool and shaded hikes. Even though the terrain is hilly, the trails are accessible to most hikers. For families with young children and pets, caution is advised due to the steep slopes surrounding the campsites. Copperheads are also present, so be careful where you step. Despite the possible dangers, the scenery is beautiful, with gorgeous falls and lush foliage. The campground host is helpful and accommodating, and the bathrooms are clean and well-stocked. The park is very quiet at night and very dark, which helps to foster a peaceful camping experience. Though some sites are restricted and satellite service may not be available, the Wi-Fi connection is reliable. Overall, this state park is an excellent destination for anyone looking for a quiet and scenic RV camping experience.
