What others are saying about this campground
. McDowell Campground is a pleasant and quiet campground located on the shore of Lake McClellan in the middle of the Texas panhandle. It is easily accessible from the interstate and has a variety of camping options. Sites have picnic tables, metal fire rings, and pedestal grills. There are two vault toilets located on each end of the campground. The campground is away from ATV trails, making it quieter than the nearby Lake McClellan Campground. There are electric and water hookups available at some sites, and a dump station is located on a gravel road near one of the two entrances off of FM 2477. The campground is ideal for an overnight stay, and is usually quite empty on weekdays. There are plenty of bugs from the nearby lake, and some sites have stickers in the grass, so it is best to walk pets on the roads. The campground is also home to red-headed woodpeckers. The cost is $15 per day with a senior national parks pass, and there is a pay station in the middle of the campground where an envelope system is used.
