The campground is close to the Rio Grande and the Santa Elena Canyon, which is 8 miles away. Hiking in the area is fantastic. The Big Freeze of February 2021 cut our visit short, but we hope to come back in warmer weather.

From The Campground

Cottonwood Campground is a walk-in tent camping only campground located in Big Bend National Park. The campground is open from November through April and reservations are required. The use of generators is not allowed at Cottonwood Campground. Wood fires and ground fires are NOT allowed anywhere in the park. A charcoal fire in an above-ground grill is allowed; ashes must be packed out. Liquid-fuel stoves are allowed. The campground has one group campsite available by advance reservation only. Maximum occupancy is 25 persons. Minimum occupancy is 9 persons. Vehicle parking is restricted to an adjacent parking area.
