GenieSummary

Rio Grande Village Campground is a well-maintained, inexpensive, and safe campground located near the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park. It offers a variety of camping options, from primitive sites to full hookup sites, with discounts available for those with the Golden Age Passport. The campground features a small general store, a nature walk, and a boat launch, as well as a private RV park with full hookups nearby. The campground is mostly quiet when RV generators are turned off, and the night-time skies are perfect for stargazing. The sites are raised and feature a level pad, a table, and a bear box to store food items and cooking utensils. Visitors should be aware that there is no cell service in the park, but the nearby village store has wi-fi. The campground is also home to javelinas, so visitors should take care to keep all food items locked in the park-provided lockers at each campsite. The campground is run by a concessionaire and is staffed by friendly and accommodating hosts.

From The Campground

Rio Grande Village Campground is located in Big Bend National Park and is open year-round. However, only 24 campsites are available from May 1 to October 31 due to extreme heat and reduced demand for sites. Reservations are required, and there is no first-come, first-served camping. The campground features four group campsites for parties of 9-40 people. Tents only, no RVs. The group campsites are in a grassy area with cottonwood trees and are near the banks of the Rio Grande, the International Boundary between the United States and Mexico. Vehicle parking is restricted to an adjacent parking area. There are no hook-ups available in the group sites, and generators are prohibited. Each site is provided with a picnic table, charcoal grill, and bear-proof food storage locker. All four group sites are within easy walking distance to water spigots and restrooms. Showers and laundry facilities can also be found close by at the Rio Grande Village Store.
