Possum Kingdom State Park is a great destination for outdoor lovers. Located in a remote area, the park offers a peaceful drive full of wildlife. There are primitive campsites and hiking trails that offer birdwatching opportunities, as well as the chance to spot wild turkeys. The campsites near the water are a bit small and rocky, but there are larger grassy sites across the street. There is an awesome store close by that uses the honor system for ice and firewood at night. The park is just a 35-45 minute drive away from the popular Hells Gate, where you can find boats tied together, bands playing, and beer drinking. There is also a nearby bar and grill, Boondocks, that serves delicious pea salad. The park offers a wide range of activities, from swimming and tubing in the water to hiking and biking on the trails. There is also a camp store, boat rentals, and a fishing pier. The campsites are spacious, with full hookups, and some even have a covered picnic table. The park is a bit older and has not been properly maintained, but it is still a great spot to relax and enjoy the lake.

Located in the rugged canyon country of the Brazos River Valley, Lake Possum Kingdom offers some of the clearest, bluest water in the southwest. Possum Kingdom State Park offers fun on water and land. On water, you can swim, boat, fish, ski, scuba dive and snorkel. On land, you can camp, picnic, hike, bike, study nature and geocache. Fish for largemouth, striped and white bass; channel and blue catfish; and white crappie. The park has a boat launch, fishing pier, and fish cleaning station. You do not need a fishing license to fish from shore in a state park. Possum Kingdom Lake has over 300 miles of shoreline and many scenic coves.
