What others are saying about this campground
Padre Island National Seashore is a great place to camp on the beach and enjoy the beauty of the Texas coast. The campground is usually fully booked, but there are miles of sand so you can find a spot that suits your fancy. The beach is accessible and you can camp on the sand, but be aware of the tides as they can reach your rig if you camp too close to the water. There are no facilities on the beach, but the Malaquite visitors center has showers, flush toilets, a park store, and trash facilities. Camping is free since they don’t provide you with any services, so make sure to bring your own water, food, gas, and supplies. You will also need a 4WD to access the farther down areas, and a pressure shower to stay clean. Be aware that the beach is a road and there are many vehicles driving on it at all hours. Additionally, there are a lot of ranger cars and trucks patrolling the beach, so be prepared to be stopped and questioned.

From The Campground
South Beach is a primitive camping area located along the Gulf of Mexico, extending 60 miles south to the Mansfield Channel. All camping is open to RV and tent camping, and there are no paved roads or amenities. Cell reception is often non-existent or very spotty. A high-clearance, 4-wheel drive vehicle is needed to reach most of South Beach. All beach driving is at your own risk so please be prepared!
