GenieSummary

San Pedro Campground is a small campground located high above the banks of the Amistad Reservoir, just a short drive from Del Rio, TX. It is part of the Amistad National Recreation Area, which covers almost 65,000 acres, 851 miles of shoreline, and has a maximum depth of 217 feet. The campground has spacious sites with lots of room for bigger rigs, a shade structure over the picnic table area, potable water, clean pit toilets, and is well maintained by the National Park Service. It is a great spot for day use, hiking, biking, and water recreation, with the boat launch just below the campground. Campers can enjoy beautiful views of the water, and the campground is safe and clean. The fee is inexpensive, and credit cards are accepted. Unfortunately, the campground is a little too close to HWY 90 and the numerous trucks along the highway can be disruptive of sleep starting around 4 am. There is no electric, but many campers bring portable solar panels to help cut down on generator noise. There is no fire ring at the RV sites, but there is one at the tent sites. The campground is not suitable for low clearance vehicles, but there are several beautiful sites on a bluff overlooking a creek. It is an excellent spot for dry campers who don’t mind possible windy conditions.

From The Campground

Amistad National Recreation Area offers five designated campgrounds: Governors Landing, Rough Canyon, San Pedro, Spur 406, and 277 North. The campgrounds are generally open year-round and rarely fill up, except on holiday weekends. Each site has a covered picnic table and fire grill. Ground fires are prohibited. All campgrounds have vault toilets. Only Governors Landing has running water to shared spigots. The other campgrounds are primitive. Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 6 am. Check-out time is 11 am. The park also offers three group campsites: Rock Quarry, San Pedro, and 277 North. These group campsites are available by reservation only.
