Galveston State Park is a great destination for anyone looking for a beach getaway. Located just 30 minutes south of Houston, the park spans over 2,000 acres and offers visitors sun, sand, and lots of fun. RV hookups, tent camping, and beachfront swimming are all available. Each campsite has its own picnic table with covered pergola, a large hook to hang items, a water spigot, and fire pit. Although the Gulf is not visible from the campsite due to sand dunes, visitors can still walk to the beach for a private experience. The day use area has toilets and outdoor showers to get the sand off when you leave the beach. The park is not well maintained and there is considerable trash in and around the campground. Our cost included a $5 park fee. Despite the lack of maintenance, visitors still enjoyed their stay here and the location was ideal for touring Galveston or catching the ferry to the Bolivar peninsula.

From The Campground

Galveston Island State Park offers a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy, including paddling trails, beach rentals, ranger programs, and a nature center. The park is also a certified field site for Texas Aquatic Science. Visitors can become Junior Rangers and borrow Explorer Packs to explore the park. Nearby attractions include the city of Galveston with its museums, shops, and restaurants, as well as Moody Gardens, an educational theme park. The park is open daily, but reservations are highly recommended, especially during the busy season from March to October.
