GenieSummary

There is a nice trail system, a replica of the original mission, and the remains of the old Camino Real. The park is well maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. The sites are a bit close together, but the park is quiet and peaceful. Mission Tejas State Park is a beautiful and serene campground situated in the deep Piney Woods of Davy Crockett National Forest. It is home to the original Franciscan Mission to the Caddo Indians, as well as a replica of the original Mission Tejas and a portion of the El Camino Real. Campsites are scattered throughout the woods, with fire rings, tables, lantern posts, showers, bathrooms, and a new front office. There are also historic markers every 3 miles or so on the current Kings Highway and Caddoan Indian Mounds to visit. The park offers three historic locations, miles of trails, and a small but beautifully curated interpretive center. Fishing is available at the lake, and there are playgrounds for young children. The campground is suitable for both tent and trailer camping, with price variation to reflect that. The sites are a bit small, but they are level and well-maintained. The park staff is friendly and helpful, and the park is quiet and peaceful.

From The Campground

Enjoy the peace of the Pineywoods and glimpses of the past at Mission Tejas State Park. Midway between Dallas and Houston, the park is at the north end of the Davy Crockett National Forest. Whether you want to rest or play, you’ll be glad you came! Hike, fish, camp, nature watch, explore history, and geocache. Set up camp under towering trees. Choose from 15 sites with electricity and water and two sites with water only. Restrooms with showers are nearby. Fish in our small pond near the picnic area or along San Pedro Creek, just a short hike from the mission. Bring your own gear or borrow some of ours. You do not need a license to fish here.
