The park also offers kayak rentals, although the process can be a bit finicky. The water at the lake has a slightly off-taste but is tolerable. The park has many shaded sites with concrete pads and long asphalt drives, but some sites have concrete pads that are wonky and require you to level out with your wheels just behind the pad. When choosing a site, make sure to check the location of the pad, the tree, and the western sky to ensure that your AC can keep up. The park has a few hiking trails that are easy to access. Anglers can enjoy the amazing fishing pier that is frequently populated with people who are catching fish. The park has many amenities such as picnic spots, day-use areas, swimming beaches, and group pavilions. The climate is perfect for visitors who want to escape the cold and snow during the winter months. The Javelina Loop is the only full-service camping area, and every campsite has a level concrete slab to simplify the leveling process. The utilities are reliable and the site has a FHU with 30/50 Amp service. Verizon has decent coverage with an OTA antenna that can pick up several Corpus Christie TV channels. If you are looking to relax, this park will deliver. The parks location provides no road noise, no city within miles, no light pollution, and nothing but a brilliant spray of stars overhead.
