Shinnery Ridge West is a lovely, smaller campground located near the Dallas Ft. Worth area. It is easily accessible and offers a variety of camping options including primitive sites, RV, tent and screened shelter sites, and one limited use cabin. The campground is situated right on the lake and offers breathtaking views of the sunset over Lake Meridian. There is also a grocery store and a couple of restaurants located just three miles away in the small town of Meridian. The sites are generous grassy areas with a picnic table, fire ring, and pedestal BBQ unit. There are a few drawbacks to this campground, such as the bathrooms being a 5 min drive away and the sites being a bit tight for a big rig. Additionally, the campground is close to a local highway that is always full of trucks and cars and AT&T cell service is spotty.
From The Campground
Meridian State Park is a beautiful park constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1827(V) in 1933 and 1934. The park features a lake with a dam, a cut-stone refectory, and an open-air pavilion. The park offers ranger programs, Junior Ranger activities, and Explorer Packs for kids. It is also a Texas Aquatic Science Certified Field Site. The park has a bird checklist available for birdwatchers. Nearby cities offer museums, restaurants, shopping, and more. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Entrance fees are $5 for adults and free for children 12 years and under. The park recommends making reservations for both camping and day use to guarantee entry.
