What others are saying about this campground
Red Arroyo Campground at San Angelo State Park offers a unique camping experience with expansive open fields, shelter/shade type enclosures, and boat launch. The campsites are large and spread out and have power and water hook-ups, as well as covered picnic tables and flat camp sites. There is a dump onsite and a day use fee of $4 per person if you do not have a Texas State Park Pass. Unfortunately, there are not many trees to hammock camp from, so bring a tent or RV. The restrooms are not very clean, but the park host are very friendly and helpful. The trails are a bit muddy due to recent rain, and the wind can get strong, so be prepared to take care of anything that might need to be held down. The night sky is decent but not as dark as expected due to nearby lights from San Angelo. There is also some road noise. There are 50 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, plus a wildlife blind set up near the Red Arroyo loop. Cell service is good for Verizon and T-Mobile. Fisher Lake is a reservoir that is emptying out and never likely to come back, but there are still plenty of roads and trails to run and bike. Overall, it is a great place to stay, but go in with your eyes open.
