This campground is located 25 minutes from downtown San Antonio and offers a variety of sites from full hookup to gravel lakeside sites for fishermen. It is a great spot for fishing, birding, and photography. However, the bathrooms are dark and dirty, and there is an additional $10 per person fee per day. There is no patrol to ensure everyone leaves the park at night, and the electric hookup is slanted down and not fixed. There is also a lot of trash left by the shore fishermen that is never cleaned up. The staff are friendly, but seem overwhelmed. Detailed instructions from the office are necessary as the sites are not marked.

From The Campground

Calaveras Lake Access is a public access park that offers camping, picnic areas, boat ramps, and good shoreline access. A few RV sites with hookups are available for rental. Two four-lane paved boat ramps are available, located approximately 1/4 mile apart. Camping and day use fees apply. A fee receipt for Braunig Lake also provides admittance to Calaveras Lake.
