What others are saying about this campground
Escalante Petrified Forest State Park in Escalante, UT, is conveniently located just an hour away from Bryce Canyon NPS and an hour and 45 minutes from Capitol Reef NPS. It is only minutes from Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. The campground has easily accessed exhibits of petrified trees, including an entire tree from root ball to tree top. The Petrified Forest trail is perfect for those who enjoy hiking, while the more experienced hikers will enjoy the challenging Sleeping Rainbow trail, with its amazing petrified artifacts. The staff is helpful and friendly, while the campground and comfort stations are amazingly clean. The current section dates back to the 70s, so many of the sites are designed for tents and smaller RVs, but there are a couple of sites that can fit 30-36 foot RVs. The internal roads are narrow, yet maneuverable. A new section is under construction that will be able to accommodate large modern RVs with multiple slides and include full hookups. Pet owners will be pleased to hear that the park is dog friendly, and the lake, although cold, is perfect for a refreshing swim.

From The Campground

Escape to the shores of Wide Hollow Reservoir and camp among the petrified forest at Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. Rent a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard and explore the clear waters of the reservoir. Hike along park nature trails and marvel at the ancient petrified wood, but remember to take only photographs. Some say the petrified wood is haunted and removing a piece brings the taker nothing but bad luck. Watch this and decide for yourself!
