Tanners Flat is a beautiful campground located in Little Cottonwood Canyon, just outside of Salt Lake City. With 31 single sites, 3 doubles, and 3 group campsites, there is something for everyone. The sites are close together, but each one is surrounded by trees and offers a great view of the nearby creek. There are pull-through areas for camping trailers, and flat, sunny clearings for tents. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed in the canyon due to it being a watershed. The campground has a few amenities such as dumpsters, a bundle of firewood for $6, and 10 lbs of ice for $2. The bathrooms are old and dirty, and there is no water available in the sinks or at spigots. The campground is close to attractions such as Lisa Falls, Cecret Lake, and the ski resorts of Snowbird and Alta. There is also a free solo hike called the South Ridge of Mt. Superior nearby. The campground is great for a quick getaway, and the hosts are friendly and welcoming. Be sure to call ahead and make a reservation, as the sites fill up quickly.
