Goose Point in Bassett, VA is a beautiful campground that offers stunning views of the lake. Visitors appreciate how most of the sites in loop C are long enough for larger RVs and the site width is more than adequate for most. The campground is surrounded by trees that provide partial to full shade in most sites. There is a lack of shrubbery, which results in good views of the lake from the interior of the sites but may also limit privacy between sites. The bathhouses are clean, and rangers make frequent rounds through the area. Access to the campground is a bit steep, and there is a tight hairpin curve in the road just before loop C, but visitors report having no issues getting there with caution. Although cell data coverage can be spotty, visitors report being able to stream using T-Mobile 5G hotspot, and Verizon works okay in some parts. The campground allows motorboats and kayaks, and firewood is available for reasonable prices.

From The Campground

Philpott Lake is a unique place to visit, nestled in the rugged foothills within sight of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The clear water and natural shoreline make it a great destination for camping, boating, fishing, hiking, and hunting. Over 6,000 acres of surrounding land, 3,000 acres of water, and a power plant make up Philpott Project located in portions of Franklin, Henry and Patrick counties. Congress authorized construction in 1944 for flood control and hydroelectric power generation as the primary purposes, and water supply and recreation as subsequent purposes.
