What others are saying
Bear Creek Lake State Park is a beautiful campground located just an hours drive from Richmond. It is part of the VA State Park system and is exceptionally well-maintained. Tent-only sites are located alongside the lake, providing beautiful views and access to fishing and canoeing. The tent pads are filled with shredded tires for extra cushion, and all sites have fire rings, lantern hooks, and extra long picnic tables. There are also bathrooms with showers and electrical outlets to charge devices. The park has lots of hiking, boat/canoe rentals, cabins, fishing, and a lakeside diner. The summer heat and humidity can be intense, so fall is the best time to go. The campground is small, so it is perfect for a getaway. There are also trails that go directly from the camp sites to the swimming area, and a dog only section at the beach. The staff and camp hosts are friendly and helpful, and the whole area is clean and quiet. There is no wi-fi, but there is a small camp store with ice and soda, marshmallows and souvenir t-shirts. The park police can be driving too fast, so be aware of that. Overall, Bear Creek Lake State Park is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy nature.
