GenieSummary
The Cove is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy shooting, fishing, ATVing, hiking, jeeping, and snow tubing. With pristine settings between two mountain ranges and crystal clear lakes and ponds, its a great place to explore. However, the RV sites are not well delineated and are merely pull off areas on the side of a muddy/dusty, gravel rutted track. The campground in general is in poor condition and, by the managements own admission, it’s not really set up for trailers or RV’s. The owners are known to nickel and dime visitors for all of their activities, and the sites are unlevel and difficult to get a fifth wheel level. Tent camping is a better option, but its unclear if there are showers and flushable bathrooms. The camp office is littered with rubbish and odds and ends, and there is a lack of mosquito control near the lake. Be aware that you are in the middle of nowhere, so it may be necessary to drive 13 miles to the nearest Wal-Mart to buy supplies.
From The Campground
The Cove Campground is a privately owned, certified tree farm that covers about three thousand acres ranging from one to three thousand feet in altitude in the Appalachian Mountains. It is located just 12 miles west of Winchester, Virginia and 80 minutes from Washington, DC. The campground offers 100 campsites, cabins, hot showers, and a target range. There are also three large spring-fed lakes for swimming, boating, and fishing. The Cove is a great place for hiking and enjoying the outdoors.
