What others are saying about this campground
Sherando Lake Campground is a beautiful campground located in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest, near Waynesboro. It is situated on the west side of the Blue Ridge, and is known as the jewel of the Blue Ridge due to its stunning beauty and 25 acre spring fed lake. The campground has two loops, C and B, with sites that have a picnic table, food prep table, fire pit with grate and cooking hook, lantern hook, bear resistant metal food box and 50/30/20 amp electricity with no issues. The roads in the park leading to the campground loops are narrow, but wide enough for two large rigs to pass. There are faucets spaced throughout the campground but they do not have threaded ends and are only intended to fill water jugs. The sites are very level with hard packed sand and lots of trees and space between them. The campground honors the U.S. Government senior citizen passport (half price). There are two great little hikes around the lakes, one not so easy, up to Overlook Rock, and one 45 min hike off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The bathroom/showers are clean & well maintained, but unheated. Park rangers make very frequent compliance runs, so dont even think about breaking any rules. Sherando Lake is a great spot for those who want to disconnect and enjoy nature, as there is no WI-FI, no cell phone, no TV, (without satellite). For the rest of our 4 day stay, nothing was available, and people were literally waiting in line for our site when we left.
