What others are saying about this campground
Grayson Highlands is a beautiful campground located off U.S. 58 in Virginia. It is known for its stunning fall colors, views of wild ponies, waterfalls, and 360 degree vistas. The campground is situated on the Appalachian Trail, making it a popular destination for hikers. The campground is dark, with no streetlights or floodlights, and few people leaving any LED awning lights on all night. It is a great spot for stargazing, but the tree cover will hide anything lower to the horizon. There are 70 campsites, with 2 bath houses and 6 showers total. The sites have lose gravel and are sloped, making it difficult to exit with a long RV. There is limited Verizon service at the site, but a good signal at the Visitors Center. The campground staff is friendly and helpful, and they come around in a golf cart to sell ice and firewood. There is a nice big meadow nearby with lots of room for kids to run around and play. The first night, the rangers have a community campfire with smores and come around to personally invite everyone to join in. The campground is not suitable for vehicle combinations over 35 feet, and RVs with low ground clearance may need dolly wheels to make it. The price for a water and 30 amp electric site is $38.50, plus a drive up reservation fee, tourist tax, and pet fee.
