From The Campground
High Knob Recreation Area is a remote and private campground located in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests. The campground was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s and offers cooler summer temperatures due to its higher mountain elevation. The campground offers 13 campsites and a day use and picnic area along a scenic mountain lake. Bath houses have hot showers and flush toilets. Many of the original CCC structures are still in use here today. The campground is open from late-May to late-September and fees are $10 per campsite per night and $5 per vehicle up to 8 passenger capacity for day use. The America the Beautiful Interagency Pass series and the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests Seasonal Day Use Pass are accepted here and cover day use fees. The America the Beautiful Senior and Access Passes provide a 50% discount to the base campsite fee (not hook ups) and day use fee. The campground is operated by the Clinch Ranger District and can be contacted at (276) 679-8370.
