GenieSummary

This campground is a great spot for a weekend getaway. Located near the Historic Triangle of Jamestown/Williamsburg/Yorktown, the campground is run by James City County and offers amazing views of the Chickahominy River. It is a great spot for activities like kayaking, swimming, fishing, biking, and hiking. There are lots of trees for shade, a playground, a pool, and a fishing pier. The sites are big but close together, and there are electric and basic sites available. There is a store/office, water, electric, sewer, group sites both large and small, boat rentals, swimming pool, canoe and kayak launch and rentals, basketball goal, picnic table, dirt/grass pads, trash, boat launch, and disc golf. However, the campground is in need of maintenance, such as new asphalt to fill pot holes in the roadway and gravel to cover dirt in sites. There is also low water pressure, no gate or controlled access, and no WiFi. The bathrooms are old but clean, and the fire pits are usually full of residue. The campground is lit up like a Christmas tree all night long, so it is not dark sky friendly. It is a great spot for a weekend getaway, with lots of activities and beautiful views.

From The Campground

Chickahominy Riverfront Park is a year-round storage facility that offers secure gate access and monthly storage for $100. The park allows single, free-standing tents up to 16'x16' in open spaces, but not within 100' of picnic shelters, playgrounds, sports courts, parking lots, pedestrian paths, or patios. Tents must be anchored per manufacturer's recommendations and may not be combined with other tents. The park requires a Special Park Use Permit and additional fees for tents larger than 16'x16', inflatables, generators, petting zoos, towable smoker/grill or fryers, or other large equipment. Chickahominy Riverfront Park is a dog-friendly park, and dogs must be under complete and immediate control of owners at all times and must be on a leash no longer than 8 feet. Owners are responsible for removing dog waste. Litter bags are available, and guests should use only what they need while using the trail.
