What others are saying about this campground
Horse Thief Lake is a great campground for those looking for a peaceful and scenic getaway. The sites are all back-in, gravel, and level, with fire rings and picnic tables. There is a short walk to the Petroglyph trail, as well as swimming and fishing in Horse Thief Lake. The campground is located near the edge of the Columbia River, and is in an area popular with wind surfers, so you can expect windy days and breezy nights. The cost of the campground reflects out-of-state residency and reservation fee. Be sure to go to the Horse Thief Lake entrance, as there are several park entrances. Unfortunately, due to the wind, you cannot put your awnings out. The sites are close together, so if you have slides, this could present an issue. Be sure to pay attention to the fire ring, as the wind can easily push it too close to the rubber.
From The Campground
Horsethief Lake is a Washington state park that offers camping, boating, fishing, and hiking opportunities. The park is located in the Columbia River Gorge and is rich in natural and cultural history. Boating is allowed on Horsethief Lake, and the park has two boat ramps and kayak and paddleboat rentals available during peak season. Fishing is also allowed on the lake, and a recreational license is required. The park is known for its windy conditions and proximity to active train tracks.
