What others are saying about this campground
Umtanum BLM Campground is a great spot for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Located along the Yakima River, the campground offers access to a variety of activities, including boating, fishing, hiking, and birdwatching. The campground features gravel sites with picnic tables and fire rings, as well as pit toilets and a boat launch. There is no drinking water or hook-ups, but the campground is patrolled by the Bureau of Land Management to keep it clean and orderly. The area is home to a variety of wildlife, including bighorn sheep, rock squirrels, wild turkeys, and fish. The campground is open all year and is free with the exception of May 15th thru Labor Day Weekend. Cellular reception is great, and there is an emergency satellite phone in the main information area. From The Campground
The Yakima River Canyon Campgrounds (Umtanum, Lmuma Creek, Big Pines, Roza) are located along the Washington State Scenic Byway of Highway 821 'Canyon Road' between the cities of Ellensburg and Yakima. The gentle Yakima River winds for 27 miles through massive basalt cliffs and rolling desert hills. This area is popular for wildlife viewing, fishing, and floating the river. All four BLM-managed recreation sites offer picnic tables, fire rings, nearby dumpsters and vault toilets. Hookups and potable water are not provided. Big Pines campground is where the majority of the campsites are located, and contains two group campsites. Umtanum, Lmuma Creek, and Roza also offer campsites. Umtanum and Roza receive high day-use visitation during the summer months. Roza offers a concrete boat launch. Motorboats are prohibited upstream from Roza.
