GenieSummary
This campground is a great option for those looking for a peaceful, secluded outdoor experience. Located right along the river, the campground offers stunning views, plenty of hiking trails, fishing access, and several beautiful beaches. The campground is very clean and quiet, and has 50 AMP service available. Campsites are spacious and come with three trees for extra privacy. Facilities are limited, however, and the bathhouse is quite dated and smelly. The campground is first come first serve and can get quite busy, so its best to arrive early. There is a small store on-site for basic supplies, but food is not stocked. Overall, this is a great place to stay for a weekend getaway.
From The Campground
Schafer State Park is a 113-acre camping park on the Satsop River, midway between Olympia and the Pacific Ocean. The park offers supreme fishing on the Satsop River, for steelhead, cutthroat trout and salmon. The river also offers calm, shallow wading spots and joyous inner-tube floats. Spread out that picnic at an outdoor table, or under a tree on the wide lawn. Meander down the 2-mile trail; then take a moment to explore the park's origins, dating back to 1872. Schafer is a state and national historic site designated by the Washington Heritage Register and National Register of Historic Places. Interpretive exhibits highlight the history of the original homesteaders and area's logging industry.
