Deception Pass State Park Campground in Oak Harbor, WA is a great location for winter camping. Although it can get chilly, the cold is not severe enough to worry about plumbing. Water is shut off for the season, and the dump station is closed. Only the Quarry Pond side of the park is open to camping, but its very nice. There are a few pull-through sites, but mostly back-in sites. Review the sites before booking to make sure you choose the right length; most are level, and theres OK cell coverage. During our visit, the weekend was sunny with a few clouds, no crowds, and no jets. We spent most of our time hiking and beachcombing. The park has three areas filled with large trees and viewpoints. Outside the park, there is a store where you can purchase supplies you forgot, firewood, propane, and fuel. The parks location is great, and its very quiet at night. We did not know until we arrived that the water hookup had been turned off, but we still had a good time. The park was hard to maneuver because the roads were narrow and lined with big trees. Forget getting cell service - we had one bar and had to go outside to make or receive calls. Nevertheless, the park itself is beautiful; we hiked all over, including the bridge.
