Fort Townsend State Park in Port Townsend,WA is a historic site in a forest on the bay. It offers limited amenities, with no hookups and only a dump station and water available. The RV sites are tight with limited maneuvering space, best suited for smaller vehicles. However, the park offers numerous walking and biking trails, with a charted nature walk available. The sites provide enough privacy and are well spread out. The beach access is a bit of a walk away, but it offers beautiful views and is worth the trek. However, visitors with larger trailers might have trouble navigating the narrow roads and tight turns to get to the campsites.
From The Campground
Fort Townsend State Park is located in Jefferson County on Puget Sound. The park occupies more than a third of the original Fort Townsend built in 1856 by the U.S. Army for the protection of settlers. The park has 40 reservable standard campsites, four hiker / biker campsites that are first come, first served. The park has one dump station, two restrooms and one shower. Maximum site length is 40 feet (limited availability). The park provides a group camp that accommodates up to 50 people. Fees vary with size of the group. Bicycles are permitted on some of the hiking trails. A recreational license is required for fishing and shellfish harvesting at Washington state parks. For regulations, fishing season information, or to purchase a recreational license, visit the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
