GenieSummary

The campground is located away from the water but there is a nice day use area right on the water. Half of the sites (20-37 and 49) are currently closed with no projected date of when they will re-open. No park staff on-site when we arrived at mid-day during the week. Alcohol is prohibited in both the campground and the day use area. The campground is open April 1– mid-December but the day use area is open year-round. The park has 1,445 feet of saltwater shoreline on Puget Sound and is located halfway between the cities of Tacoma and Seattle. It is a beautiful park with level sites, some located on the stream side. There are trails to explore and beach access with low-tide pooling for investigation. It is a great place for a weekend getaway with family and friends. Reservations can be made online and the park is pet friendly. However, due to the parks location in the flight path of Sea-Tac airport, there is constant air traffic overhead. Additionally, the park is in a high theft area, so extra caution should be taken.

From The Campground

Saltwater State Park offers camping nearby without having to spend your vacation money on gas! The beach itself is one of the most beautiful we have visited. However, the bathrooms are almost always flooded by overflowing toilets and sinks. The smell is horrible. I hope that they will be able to get the issues with the bathrooms resolved soon. They also have a great cafe available to purchase food and snacks after searching the beach and after the kids work up an appetite!
