Coopers Rock State Forest in Bruceton Mills, WV is an idyllic camping spot, situated just off highway 68. Despite its proximity to the highway, as soon as you enter the forest, you will feel as if you have stepped back in time. The forest is thick, tall, and quiet, with plenty of untouched, preserved areas to explore. The trails, views, and landscapes are all spectacular, making it the perfect place for a calming and serene getaway in nature. There are also several side trails beyond the official ones that offer even more exploration opportunities. The park has two campgrounds, with one being tent-only and beautifully embedded in the forest. The McCollum campground can accommodate RVs, but it may not be ideal for larger rigs. The roads and sites can be tight and are uneven at times, but it is possible to level with some blocks and levelers. The campground is mostly shaded with large trees, which can be wonderful but also a bit overwhelming if you think too much about them. All campsites are electric only, and there are no water or sewer hookups. However, there is a dump station at the beginning of the park with potable water, and the bathhouse next to the office is clean and convenient. There is also firewood for purchase at the campground. While the park is undergoing expansions with construction underway to add new campsites and cabins, there are some growing pains, including occasional noise from the equipment. The campground is the quintessential camping experience, providing an opportunity to relax, unwind, and explore the great outdoors.
