Kanawha State Forest is a small campground located around a 10-minute drive from downtown Charleston in Hernshaw, WV. It is settled in a hollow and features a nice small creek that runs through it, providing a perfect opportunity for the kids to play. The hiking trails in the forest are outstanding, and there are plenty of fishing opportunities along the creek, with some fishing holes near the park entry. The facilities are well-maintained and clean, and the friendly camp staff is always helpful. The campground is well-shaded, providing lots of pleasant seclusion and a nice place to disconnect from the craziness outside. However, there isnt any cell service or internet available at the individual campsite, except for a very limited Wi-Fi signal at the Ranger Hut near the main bathhouse. Officials are trying to update the facilities, which makes the prospects exciting for the future of the grounds.
