From The Campground

Wanoka Lake Campground is a beautiful campground located in the Washburn District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The campground offers accessible sites for visitors with disabilities. The campground is popular for fishing, with carry-in boat access to the 15-acre Wanoka Lake, which has panfish and is popular with trout anglers. Fishing opportunities can also be found at Wishbone, Clay, Reynard and Beaver Lakes in the nearby Rainbow Lake Wilderness Area. Hiking enthusiasts can enjoy the North Country Trail, which passes through the Rainbow Lake Wilderness and offers great views of Wishbone, Reynard, Bufo, Rainbow, and Tower Lakes. Horseback riders can explore the Horseshoe Lake Saddle Trail, which weaves through towering pine and hardwood forests as well as through the area’s open barrens. Wildlife enthusiasts can visit the Moquah Pine Barrens, which is home to gray wolf, black bear, red fox, plains pocket gopher, eastern bluebird, clay-colored sparrows, and eastern towhees. The Washburn District provides the avid wildflower watcher with some of the best viewing opportunities in Northern Wisconsin. Wanoka Lake Campground is a great place to enjoy non-motorized water activities such as canoeing, kayaking, paddling, and windsurfing. In the winter, visitors can enjoy dog sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing on the North Country Trail and Valhalla Recreation Area.
