Thompsons West End Park is a beautiful city campground located on the shores of Lake Superior, just south of Bayfield. The campground offers 27 acres of gradually sloping shoreline, with 51 RV and tent sites off paved access roads. 17 of these sites are seasonal, and all sites have electric hookups. The park also provides a sanitary dump station, flush toilets, an unguarded swimming beach, a playground, an open play area, pay showers, and a fishing pier. An artesian well provides wonderful tasting water for campers to fill their bottles. Cable TV is provided to all sites with electrical hookups. The campground is close to Washburn, Bayfield, and Ashton, with trails for walking starting at the park and following the shoreline into town. There is also a boat launch with a $5 fee. The campground is consistently full, so it is suggested to not come in on a Fridays. The park is quiet and friendly, with locals making up most of the campers. However, there are no water and sewer hookups, and some of the corners are tight, so it is suggested to disconnect the toad vehicle and scout sites and campground layout before taking the RV in.
