What others are saying about this campground
Marathon Park Campground is located within a larger park that offers multiple amenities, such as playgrounds, tennis courts, splash pads, an amphitheater and ice rinks. The campground itself has a bathroom/shower facility for campers and sites that offer some privacy with trees separating them. The west loop sites are reportedly the best with large and private sites. Firewood is available for purchase within the campground. The lake and beach are picturesque, but there have been reports of green stuff in the water. The hiking trails are well maintained and offer beautiful views. However, some areas in the park can be noisy during the day with heavy traffic from park visitors, but evenings and mornings are quiet. The campsites are small, even for tents, but the park is well-lit and provides security. Reservations can be made online with a two-day minimum stay, while walk-up registrations are also available with a maximum of three days.

From The Campground
Marathon County Campgrounds offer four different camping options: Big Eau Pleine Park - West Unit Campground, Big Eau Pleine Park - South Unit Campground, Dells of the Eau Claire Park Campground, and Marathon Park Campground. Each campground has its own unique features and amenities. The Big Eau Pleine Park - West Unit Campground is located on the southwest end of the 1,450 acre Big Eau Pleine Park that extends two-miles into the waters of the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir. The Big Eau Pleine Park - South Unit Campground is popular with fishermen due to its close proximity to two boat launches. The Dells of the Eau Claire Park Campground is located 20 minutes east of Wausau and features the Eau Claire River with its towering palisades of rock outcroppings rising up at the 'Dells falls. Marathon Park Campground is an urban campground located in Wausau with easy access just off the intersection of STH 29 and US 51/I39. Each campground has a dump station available for a $7 use fee. Dogs must be under immediate control on a leash not exceeding 6 feet in length. No pets are allowed on the bathing beach, picnic area, or children's playground.
