GenieSummary
Lake of the Pines in Winter, WI offers a true north woods camping experience within the stunning Flambeau River State Forest. The campground features large, wooded sites that provide plenty of privacy from your neighbors. Although only 7 electric sites are currently available, there are plenty of activities to do in the area such as hiking and enjoying the view of the falls. The bathrooms and all of the sites are well-maintained. When reserving a site, be sure to call the dedicated reservation phone in advance as the instructions are not clearly marked. If youre a paddling enthusiast, consider taking a canoe trip down the milder sections of the Flambeau River--shuttle prices are quite reasonable.
From The Campground
The Flambeau River State Forest offers a variety of camping options including backpack camping, primitive hunter camping, and an ADA-accessible yurt for hunters. Drinking water and toilet facilities are available at both family campgrounds and most landings. Campers must follow the forest's carry-in, carry-out policy by packing out all trash and recyclables. Firewood is not available at campgrounds but can be purchased from private vendors within 10 miles of the campground or gathered for free on the property. The forest has a payphone at the Flambeau Forest Inn, but cell phone service can be poor or nonexistent in many locations of the forest.
