The Bighorn National Forest Campground is a great place to stay for a night or two while exploring the surrounding area. Located near the Crow Medicine Wheel and one of the oldest trails in North America, the campground is a unique experience for those looking to pay homage to the areas Native American heritage. The campground features level sites with amazing creek views, a large turn around area for staging and unloading, and a friendly camp host who sells firewood. Vault toilets, water, and trash bins are also available. There is no cell service (Verizon), but the peace and quiet of the mountains at night make up for it. The area also has free range cattle, but not much known bear activity. This is a great place to stop on the way to Yellowstone or on the way back!
From The Campground
Shell Creek Campground is located off U.S. Highway 14, the Bighorn Scenic Byway. The campground is situated along Shell Creek and is close to the Adelaide Trailhead, which offers access to the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Shell Canyon and the Shell Falls Interpretive Site are less than five miles away.
