The only downside is that there are a lot of permanent campers, and the park does not take reservations during peak camping seasons, so your ability to get a suitable site is hit and miss. Point Mallard is a large campground located in the city of Decatur, AL. It is part of a recreational complex with a golf course, water park, tennis courts, ice rink, driving range, and a 3 mile walking/biking trail along the river. The campground is pet friendly and has a store with some essentials, laundry facility, spacious sites, fire pits, and picnic tables. It is well maintained and the staff is friendly. There are a lot of permanent campers, and the park does not take reservations during peak camping seasons, so your ability to get a suitable site is hit and miss. The campground is family friendly, but there are some noisy diesel trucks due to the transient workers. The sites are close together, but there are plenty of trees for shade and picnic tables.
