GenieSummary
Coleman Lake Campgrounds is a great family-friendly campground located in the Talladega National Forest. It is very remote, with no cell phone service, but offers a great escape for those looking for a quiet getaway. Sites are first come, first serve, with water and electric hookups. There is a campground host on duty, and the Pinhoti Trail that extends from south Alabama to north Georgia runs right beside the lake, making it a great spot for hikers and bikers. On Halloween, the camp host invited the kids for campground trick or treating, and almost every camp site gave out candy. There are two main loops for campers/RVs, with paved roads, relatively flat camp sites, and water and electric hookups. There is also an overflow area with primitive sites, fire rings, and pea gravel. Fees for the main loops are $16 per night and $6 for the overflow. Restrooms and showers are clean, and there is a day use area with a paved parking area, picnic tables, a 2 mile trail around Coleman Lake, a boat ramp, and a small swimming area. There is a day use fee of $3 per vehicle if not camping.
From The Campground
The Coleman Lake Recreation Area is a peaceful campground nestled in the Talladega mountains. Two new comfort stations and seven camping sites are fully accessible for the physically challenged. Most sites will accommodate recreational vehicles up to 35 feet in length. A picnic shelter that seats 40 is available on a first come, first serve basis, or it can be reserved for $15.
