Gulf State Park is a huge state park located in the Gulf Shores area offering a variety of amenities for visitors to enjoy. The park features a golf course, nature center, large laundry room, miles of well-maintained hiking and biking trails, and a long pier into the ocean. There are 496 campsites with many pull thrus, 30-50 amp service, water sewer, and clear TV reception. The park also has a beautiful pool, nature center, walking trails, fishing pier, beaches, a lake with boat rentals and amphitheater, all meticulously maintained. Other amenities include a splash pad for kids, tennis courts, volleyball, horseshoes, kayaking, camping, boating, canoeing, swimming (the beach and the pool are both wonderful), nature watching, lounging, eating at the area restaurants, visiting local bars, and more. The park also has a neat restaurant on beachfront called The Hangout with good food, great atmosphere, live music nightly, and lots of activities for the kids. Despite the damage done several years ago by Hurricane Ivan, Gulf State Park is still one of the best campgrounds in the area.
From The Campground
Gulf State Park Campground eatures a 496-site improved campground with 11 modern bathhouses, pull-thru sites, back-in sites, waterfront campsites, and ADA accessible sites. The paved camping pads fit large RVs and provide full hookups with water, sewer, electricity, a picnic table, and pedestal grill. The park even has 3 new “glamping” sites and 11 primitive camping sites that include stone campfire rings, grill tops, and picnic tables nestled among the trees and along the creek. Guests can enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, and other activities found along the shores of Lake Shelby, a 900-acre freshwater lake that is one of the closest to saltwater along the Gulf of Mexico. The park’s 20 cabins provide guests with beautiful views of Lake Shelby or the beautiful longleaf pines and the palmetto forest of coastal Alabama. The park’s close proximity to Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Foley, Fairhope, and Mobile provides Gulf State Park with several retail and restaurant options to choose from. The Five Rivers Delta Resource Center, Weeks Bay Reserve, The USS Alabama, and Meaher State Park are all within driving distance.
