Moundville Archaeological Park is a great stopover location for RV campers. The campground is owned by the state and University of Alabama, and it is mainly visitors of the archeological site that use the facilities. The park is ideal for a two-day stay, as Tuscaloosa and the Alabama campus can provide additional sightseeing. There are also museums and restaurants nearby, as well as a farmers market on Saturdays. The campsites themselves are generally good, but some of the hookups are located on the wrong side of the rig and are far away from the site. The bathhouses might be older, but they are clean. During a recent stay, one camper saw a pretty green treefrog in the shower stall. Be aware that Moundville Archaeological Park doesnt take reservations; however, they rarely fill up and its easy to secure a site. The cost of camping includes tickets to the museum, which is a good value. Additionally, there is a fenced-in dog area that is perfect for dogs to run and play off-leash. During severe weather, the park staff will let visitors use the shelter for safety.
