What others are saying
Oak Mountain State Park is a beautiful, rustic campground located on a serene lake with plenty of activities to keep the entire family entertained. From fishing and boating to mountain biking and horseback riding, there is something for everyone. The park also has a 18 hole golf course with pro shop & driving range, mountain bike trails, a demonstration farm, and rental horseback riding facilities. The nearby restroom-shower building is old, poorly maintained, and not air-conditioned. There is a small Ranger Store with walking stick badges, stickers and an assortment of tee-shirts. The campground offers a variety of sites from fairly secluded water and electric to pull throughs with FHUs, and a metal fire pit with cooking grate. There is a $5 reservation fee for making your own on-line reservation. The park is also home to a wildlife rehabilitation center, and a treetop nature boardwalk which features several enclosures where you can view birds of prey up close. Unfortunately, campground trash dumpsters are beyond the campground gate, making it difficult to dump your trash until the end of your stay. Once the sun goes down, coyotes can be heard in the distance, but the park is well maintained and the ranger regularly drives through the campground. There is also a good food option at The Grille at Oak Mountain State Park inside the Pro Shop at The Oaks Golf Course. All major shopping and eateries are just beyond the park boundaries in Pelham, Hoover and Birmingham.
