Unfortunately, the campsites are quite close together and the historical sites are not well maintained. Visitors should also be aware that the lake waters have turned colors and have an odor of raw sewage. There is also feral cats in the campground, trash on the shorelines, and an old deflated blow up slide that has been there for years. The park is also only accessible between 6am and 3pm, and a private road access is required to enter the park. Despite these drawbacks, visitors can still have a great relaxing weekend and take advantage of the great history on the trails.

St. Stephens Historical Park is a state park designated to preserve the history of the Territorial Capital of Alabama. Our park grounds include remains of the original town of St. Stephens which experienced its heyday from 1799-1829. We also have a 70 acre quarry lake and over 15 miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding. Lodging options include 9 cabins, over 40 RV sites, and primitive camping sites.
