What others are saying
This campground is a great place to get away from it all and enjoy the serenity of nature. It is located in a remote area, far from civilization, and is perfect for those looking for a peaceful getaway. The campground has 11 sites, all of which are full hookups and on the lake shore. The sites are close together and the campground is a bit run down, but it is dark and quiet at night and the sunrise over the lake is beautiful. The restroom facilities at the office are not well maintained and the toilet does not flush. There is a fire pit at each site and firewood is available for gathering. The campground also offers a great hiking trail for a quick half day visit and plenty of room on the ponds dam for tent camping. Cell phone coverage is virtually nonexistent. This campground is perfect for those looking to relax, fish, or take a boat ride around the lake.

From The Campground

Paul Grist State Park is a beautiful 1,080-acre park featuring a 100-acre lake surrounded by southern pines and hardwoods. Visitors can enjoy fishing, paddling, swimming, hiking, picnicking, and barbecue grills. The park offers 11 modern campsites with 50-amp services overlooking the lake, as well as primitive tent camping sites. A bathhouse is located nearby that is ADA accessible. Paul M. Grist is a featured site on the Alabama Black Belt Birding Trail, and visitors can see a wide variety of waterfowl, song birds, raptors, and both migrating and resident species. Other wildlife you might see include White-tailed deer, Eastern wild turkey and a variety of amphibians and reptiles. Nearby attractions include the city of Selma, where visitors can explore historic houses and The Old Depot Museum, an interpretive museum in an 1891 railway depot. Selma is also known for Civil Rights history and is home to the National Voting Rights Museum. Selma hosts several events throughout the year such as the Battle of Selma Re-enactment. Adjacent to the archaeological park is the Old Cahawba Forever Wild tract, which features hiking and hunting opportunities.
