Cathedral Caverns State Park in Woodville, AL is a small park with new and clean amenities. The campground has less than 20 sites, but is tucked away in a quiet and beautiful mountain setting surrounded by trees. Most sites are full hookups and relatively new. The hosts are helpful and friendly. The park is clean and peaceful, with well-maintained facilities. The cavern tour is an amazing experience. Cathedral Caverns State Park is a natural wonder located in Woodville, Alabama. Originally called Bat Cave, the cave was opened to the public by Jacob Gurley in the 1950s and was renamed because of its cathedral-like appearance. Purchased by the state in 1987, it was opened as a State Park in the summer of 2000. The park encompasses 493 acres and features marked hiking trails, gemstone mining, and of course, cave tours. The cave maintains a comfortable 60 degrees temperature year-round, making it an excellent field trip for school, church, or other groups. Inside the cavern are some of the most beautiful formations Mother Nature has ever created including “Goliath”- one of the largest stalagmites in the world measuring 45 feet tall and 243 feet in circumference.
