What others are saying
Sites are a bit close together, but all have a picnic table and fire pit. Most sites have a view of the river and all have a view of the lock and dam. Sites are back-in with plenty of room for the big rigs. The sites are mostly level, but some are a bit sloped, so make sure you check before you back in. The park is located on the Arkansas River and there is a boat launch and plenty of places to fish. There are also trails for mountain biking and hiking. The park also has a playground, basketball courts, and picnic pavilions. Springhill Park in Fort Smith is a great U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground and recreation area. Located in Barling, Arkansas, just a short drive from downtown Fort Smith, the park is set among tall trees adjacent to the John Paul Hammerschmidt Lake and James W. Trimble Lock and Dam of the Arkansas River. The area offers plenty of sights to see and interesting things to do, including mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, and hiking. Campsites can be booked online, except during the off-season when all sites are walk-in. The campground has two loops, A and B, with sites that are mostly level and spaced appropriately. Loop A has fewer trees and is situated along a wide, quiet river, while Loop B is more wooded and backs up to a small pond. Amenities include a boat launch, picnic pavilions, basketball courts, playground, and fire pits. The park is also close to lots of shopping and restaurants in Fort Smith, and the lock and dam provide a beautiful view.
