Wilderness Lake Park in Willington, CT is a convenient one night stop located near 84, with a nice pond and warm water beach. The park provides guests with free canoes and kayaks to paddle around in. The large camp store has plenty of supplies available. There are horseshoe pits and a basketball court to keep guests entertained. Although the campground is a random mix of full-time, seasonal, and overnight people, the campgrounds communal atmosphere feels pleasant overall. Some of the seasonal spots on the lake have docks and are quite nice. Keep in mind that there arent any really private spots for RVs or trailers, but some of the tent sites look nice. Some of the full-time and seasonal campers may seem less than trustworthy, and the trash dumpsters were overflowing when one traveler visited. The park feels slightly uneven in terms of the quality of campsites. However, it has a relaxing atmosphere and offers good hiking. The kindness of the staff cannot be overstated; they went above and beyond to help one camper who had a breakdown on the way to the park. Despite some imperfections, this lovely community makes a pleasant place to relax in nature.
